Abstract
⺠Shot peening with different materials increases compressive residual stress, result depends on peening material. ⺠Intensive shot peening may destroy tool micro geometry (cutting edges). ⺠Laser ablation is applied for shaping tool micro geometry. ⺠Laser ablation creates new solid phases by heat input, which may destroy tool surface. ⺠Laser ablation induces tensile residual stress, which may reduce tool lifetime.
