Abstract
► Shot peening with different materials increases compressive residual stress, result depends on peening material. ► Intensive shot peening may destroy tool micro geometry (cutting edges). ► Laser ablation is applied for shaping tool micro geometry. ► Laser ablation creates new solid phases by heat input, which may destroy tool surface. ► Laser ablation induces tensile residual stress, which may reduce tool lifetime.
