Abstract
► TiC synthesized with very low coefficient of friction and high wear resistance. ► Effect of process gas composition and exposure time on these properties are studied. ► The difference in growth mechanisms and growth rate of TiC is brought out. ► Amount of carbon and its graphitization on TiC is vital for reducing friction.
