Abstract
Self-sustaining reduction of MoO3 by zinc was investigated. To optimize process parameters thermodynamic analysis was performed. It was shown that zinc migration from the reacting zone takes place at definite conditions. Experimental parameters (e.g. sample density and diameter and gas pressure) influencing on process conditions and product characteristics were revealed. Molybdenum powder with 0.1–1 μm particle size was produced at the optimal conditions. Oxidation onset of obtained powder was found to be 250 °C.
