Abstract
The results of absorption, photoluminescence and ESR studies on these Co2+ and Fe2+ doped and undoped glasses show the absorptive ions doping in phosphate glasses leading to the formation and suppression of different types of defects in fluoride-containing phosphate based glasses. These studies also illustrate formation and characterization of different types of defects, indicated by a various degree of red-shift of UV transmission edges, and the changes in photoluminescence and ESR spectra as well. Thus information obtained from these studies gives an important aspect of the affects of metallic impurities on optical properties of ultraviolet transmitting fluoride-containing phosphate glasses in particular.151
