Abstract

•Nb-sheathed FeSe0.5Te0.5 tapes were successfully fabricated by an ex-situ PIT method.•Texture is confirmed by XRD and SEM analyses.•Our FeSe0.5Te0.5 tape has high μ0Hc2 and small μ0Hc2 anisotropy.•The highest Tc about 15.7 K was gotten.•The largest magnetic Jc about 1 × 104 A/cm2 (5 K, 0T) was obtained.

We report the fabrication of Nb-sheathed FeSe0.5Te0.5 superconducting tapes by the ex-situ powder-in-tube method. In our fabrications, high-quality FeSe0.5Te0.5 polycrystalline material was firstly employed as precursor and different annealing settings were performed on as-rolled FeSe0.5Te0.5 tapes as their last heat-treatment steps. Subsequently, resistance measurements and magnetization measurements were carried out on annealed FeSe0.5Te0.5 tapes. Furthermore, according to our results, the highest superconducting transition temperature and the highest self-field magnetic critical current density of our FeSe0.5Te0.5 tape reached about 15.7 K and 1 × 104 A/cm2 at 5 K, respectively.
