Abstract
•Thermodynamic and electrical properties of Tm3Cu4Si4 were determined.•Long-range antiferromagnetic order was found to set in below 3.4 K.•Cascade of phase transitions was identified in the ordered state.
The compound Tm3Cu4Si4 was studied by means of X-ray diffraction, magnetic, specific heat and electrical resistivity measurements. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic structure of the Gd3Cu4Ge4 type. It orders antiferromagnetically at the Néel temperature of 3.4 K, and undergoes in the ordered region a cascade of other phase transitions, probably of antiferromagnetic character. The compound shows metallic type of the electrical conductivity.
