Abstract
•TmSnGe was proved to exhibit no magnetic ordering down to 0.35 K.•Novel compound LuSnGe was prepared and characterized for its physical behavior.•LuSnGe was found a BCS superconductor with Tc = 0.74 K.
The compounds RSnGe (R = Tm, Lu) were synthesized in polycrystalline form and characterized by X-ray diffraction, magnetization, electrical resistivity and heat capacity measurements performed in wide temperature range. TmSnGe was found to show a Curie–Weiss paramagnetic behavior with no magnetic ordering down to 0.35 K. LuSnGe was established to be a weak diamagnet and to exhibit a BCS-type superconductivity below 0.74 K.
