Abstract

We report the subsolidus phase relations in the SrO–CuO–TiO2 ternary system at 950 °C in air. For this study, numerous samples of various nominal compositions were prepared by the solid state reaction, and their equilibrium phases were analyzed by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). On the basis of our XRD analysis data and previous reports on the SrO–CuO, CuO–TiO2, and SrO–TiO2 binary phase diagrams, subsolidus phase diagram of the SrO–CuO–TiO2 ternary system could be completely constructed. Instead of the stoichiometric SrCu3Ti4O12 compound, new ternary compounds of Sr0.9639(1−y)Cu3.0361(1−3y)Ti4+2yO12-type solid solutions were found to exist and their solubility limit was 0 ⩽ y ⩽ 0.0235 at 950 °C in air.

► We report the subsolidus phase diagram of the SrO–CuO–TiO2 system at 950 °C in air. ► The Sr0.9639(1-y)Cu3.0361(1-3y)Ti4+2yO12-type solid solutions could be identified. ► The solubility limit of these solid solutions is 0 ⩽ y ⩽ 0.0235 at 950 °C in air.
