The ZnO microrods modified by Cu2O nanocrystals were prepared in aqueous solution. ZnO microrods acted as carrier to immobilize the Cu2O nanocrystals and improved the recovery rate from solution. The ZnO/Cu2O compounds promoted the separation of photo-induced electrons and holes, which was proved by surface photovoltage spectroscopy (SPS). Therefore, the compounds showed an enhanced photocatalytic activity than pure ZnO and pure Cu2O under both UV–vis light and visible light.
