Abstract

Hafnium oxide (HfO2) nanoparticles (NPs) have been prepared by a simple sonochemical method at room temperature. The as prepared NPs were characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, laser Raman spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and UV–Visible spectroscopy. The XRD, FTIR and laser Raman patterns reveal that the NPs are in monoclinic phase. From FESEM and TEM observations, the size of the HfO2 NPs was estimated to be significantly smaller than 20 nm. The sonochemical method is one of the green synthesis routes to prepare nanoparticles; it takes short reaction time and is cost effective compared to other methods.

► HfO2 NPs were synthesized by sonochemical method. ► XRD and Raman analysis confirmed the presence of monoclinic phase. ► FESEM and TEM images indicate the formation of spherical nanoparticles. ► The method is a simple, short reaction time and cost effective.
