Abstract
► Extruded AZ61A Mg alloy plate of 6 mm thick was welded using FSW process. ► Effect of pH, Cl− concentration and immersion time on the corrosion rate was studied. ► Corrosion rate was evaluated from weight loss method. ► Empirical relationship was developed to predict the corrosion rate. ► Lower corrosion rate was found at low concentrated solutions with higher pH and exposure times.
