Abstract

First ever Compton spectroscopy study on Cr0.8Al0.2 alloy to examine the charge transfer and electron momentum densities using in-house 241Am γ-ray spectrometer is presented. The experimental data on the alloy are compared with present spin polarized relativistic Korringa–Kohn–Rostoker (SPR-KKR) calculations. The experimental Compton data on the alloy and its constituents, and SPR-KKR electronic structure calculations predict charge transfer from Cr → Al on alloying. Present computations of valence band X-ray photoemission spectra are found to be in good agreement with the available experimental data.
