Abstract
Octahedral shaped Mn0.8Zn0.2Fe2O4 ferrites were synthesized by co-precipitation method. The crystal structure, size and magnetic properties of the synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The evolution of these octahedra was examined by SEM and the mechanism was briefly discussed. Magnetic investigation revealed that the synthesized Mn0.8Zn0.2Fe2O4 octahedra were approximate superparamagnetic at room temperature, and the saturation magnetization was about 51Â emu/g. Moreover, the octahedral shaped Mn0.8Zn0.2Fe2O4 ferrites could be used to prepare magnetic fluid, which had potential applications in hyperthermia.
