Abstract

The plate-like powder of Cu60Zr30Ti10 amorphous alloy was prepared by ball milling. The amorphization and deformation mechanisms and thermodynamic properties were also investigated. The powders are milled into plate-like powders and their thicknesses decrease with increasing of milling time. After milling for 184 h, the size of the powders decreases down to 250 nm and an amorphous structure appears. The average deformation ratio is up to 142, indicating the superplasticity of the powder. The deformation mechanism may be due to a triaxial compressive stress state and/or a suitable temperature field. The amorphization mechanism may result from the diffusion of metal elements by the stress and mechanical energy. In addition, the undercooled liquid region is up to 134 K, indicating its better thermodynamic stability.
