Abstract
ⶠThe ternary carbide Cr2AlC is firstly synthesized from the Cr2O3-Al-Al4C3 sample by solid-phase self-sustaining combustion. ⶠThe degree of Cr2AlC formation is improved by introducing additional amounts of Al and Al4C3 in the samples. ⶠThe degree of Cr7C3 reduction by increasing Al4C3 content is not as effective as that by adopting additional Al. ⶠThe optimum product with almost no secondary phase Cr7C3 was obtained from an Al-rich powder compact of Cr2O3:Al:Al4C3 = 3:7.5:1.
