Abstract
▶ Si-free metallic thin ribbons show vulnerable surfaces that are easily influenced by the annealing ambience. ▶ The in-plane stress created between surfaces and ribbon interior results in hard-ribbon-axis (HRA) anisotropy. ▶ Partial surface removal reduces this anisotropy since it reduces the stress. ▶ If moderate, the induced HRA anisotropy could be exploited in certain applications.
