Ca3La(VO4)3:RE3+ (=Eu3+, Dy3+) powder phosphors have been synthesized by a chemical co-precipitation method. From the measured emission profiles, we have noticed that Eu3+ phosphor shows five emission transitions of 5D0 → 7F0,1,2,3,4 and Dy3+ phosphor exhibits two prominent emissions of 4F9/2 → 6H13/2,15/2 along with a weak red emission. Excitation spectra of these phosphors commonly show an intense and broad excitation band in the wavelength region of 250–350 nm which is a charge transfer band (CTB) aroused due to the interaction between RE3+–O2− and V–O bonds. Besides explaining the CTB, the photoluminescence properties of these phosphors were investigated under near-UV/blue light excitation wavelengths. For these phosphors XRD, SEM and FTIR features have also been recorded to explore their structural details.
