Abstract
▶ Ti-50 at.% Ni elemental powder mixtures were processed through mechanical alloying (MA). ▶ A design of experiments, based on the Taguchi method, was applied to optimize the MA parameters. ▶ Within the milling energy range used, the milling time had bigger contribution than the milling speed (74% vs 25%) for the suppression of the high temperature reaction. ▶ Crystalline phases and an amorphous phase coexisted in the mechanically alloyed powders. ▶ With MA a lamellar microstructure constituted by alternated nanolayers of Ni and Ti was produced.
