Abstract
This letter presents a re-examination of a disputable fluid flow effect on α-Fe content of Nd–Fe–B ingots. Alloys of hyperperitectic Nd–Fe–Co–B composition were melted and solidified using electromagnetic levitation and resistance furnace melting under a static magnetic field of up to 6 T. With either solidification method, α-(Fe,Co) content of the samples does not show any clear dependence on the static magnetic field. It was thus suggested that damping of fluid flow cannot alter α-Fe content of Nd–Fe–B ingots significantly.
