Directly and indirectly oxidized nanostructured Y2O3:Eu3+ and Li+ co-activated Y2O3:Eu3+ thin film phosphors were deposited on fused amorphous quartz substrates using pulsed laser deposition technique. The structural characterization of these films was done using X-ray diffraction. The optical and luminescent properties of the films were investigated using UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy respectively. The radiative properties like transition probability, branching ratio and radiative life time are calculated using Judd–Ofelt theory. Lithium incorporation and indirect oxidation mechanism is found to result in formation of films with higher oscillator strengths. Chromaticity values of the films grown under different conditions measured using CIE chromaticity diagram are also discussed.
