Abstract

The new ternary compound Pr117Co57Sn112 has been successfully synthesized and studied by means of X-ray powder diffraction technique. The compound Pr117Co57Sn112 crystallizes in a cubic Dy117Co57Sn112-type structure with space group Fm3¯m (No. 225) and lattice parameter a = 30.8202 (5) Å. The figure of merit for the index F30 is 80.4 (30). Crystal-structure of Pr117Co57Sn112 has been successfully refined using the Rietveld method from X-ray diffraction data. The R-factors for the Rietveld refinement are Rp = 0.077, Rwp = 0.101 and Rexp = 0.032. The temperature dependence of the magnetization for the compound was also investigated in the range from 85 to 305 K. The experimentally determined magnetic effective moment is μeff = 54.6 μB per formula unit.
