Abstract
The phase relationships in the Gd–Ti–Fe ternary system at 773 K have been investigated by means of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and differential thermals analysis (DTA). The existences of six binary compounds, i.e. GdFe2, GdFe3, Ge6Fe23, Gd2Fe17, TiFe and TiFe2 and three ternary compounds, i.e. GdFe9Ti2, GdFe11Ti and Gd(Fe1−xTix)9 have been confirmed. The results show that the isothermal section consists of 12 single-phase regions, 24 two-phase regions and 13 three-phase regions. The solid solubility of Ti in compounds GdFe11Ti and Gd2Fe17 is about 2% and 2.3%, respectively. The coefficient x of Gd(Fe1−xTix)9 ranges from 0.026 to 0.044.
