Abstract

In order to investigate the pumping characteristics of bulk Ti–Mo getter, Ti–7.5 wt.%Mo getter was prepared by powder metallurgy technology. The influences of activation temperature, working temperature and air baking treatment on the hydrogen pumping properties were studied. The studies reveal that the room temperature pumping property improves with the increase of activating temperature from 500 °C to 750 °C and then becomes nearly constant when the temperature increases to 800 °C. The higher the working temperature is, the better the pumping property is, however, as a special characteristic, the results show that the working temperature for the getter had better not exceed 300 °C. In particular, the pumping properties of the getter with noticeable improvement after air baking treatment compared with a nonbaked getter were also discussed and analyzed.
