Abstract
Presently, extremely light and highly formable Mg-Li alloys are drawing research interest, however, their relatively low strength is discouraging. In this paper, it is found that effects of dynamic re-crystallization, solid-solution strengthening, room temperature aging and work hardening can offset or be additive. By a process of solid-solution treatment plus 90% heavy rolling, an exceptionally high strength of 276Â MPa with 20% elongation is achieved for MgLiAlZn alloy.
