Abstract
The phase relationships in the Gd–Ti–Si ternary system at 773 K have been investigated mainly by means of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The existences of 10 binary compounds and two ternary compounds have been confirmed. The results show that this isothermal section consists of 15 single-phase regions, 28 two-phase regions and 15 three-phase regions. The solubility of Ti in Gd5Si3 is about 8 at.%. The strange solid solution region of GdSi1.67 was found in this work. No remarkable solid solubility was found in the other compounds of the Gd–Ti–Si system at 773 K.
