Abstract
The microstructural evolution of Mg–5Si–1Al alloy during partial remelting was firstly investigated in the present study. The experimental results indicated that it was difficult to acquire the designed microstructures only by a single partial remelting, since either the globular primary Mg2Si or the granular eutectic Mg2Si phase can be produced in this process. However, the desired microstructures consisting of both globular primary and granular eutectic Mg2Si phases are successfully produced by secondary partial remelting.
