The discrepancy of the measured change of d-electron occupancy in VxNi100−x and FexNi100−x alloys using EELS and kβ-to-kα X-ray intensity ratios

The change of d-electron occupancy in VxNi100−x and FexNi100−x alloys are measured using electron energy loss spectrum (EELS) in this paper. Our results differ dramatically from the reported change of d-electron occupancy in the same alloys measured by kβ-to-kα X-ray intensity ratios. This discrepancy is discussed and attributed to the errors caused by data processing and theoretical difficulty of both methods.
