Abstract
The methods to strengthen SiC preforms for SiCp/Al composites fabricated by pressureless infiltration were studied in this paper. Three methods were used to strengthen debinding SiCp preforms prepared by ceramic injection molding, that is, the SiCp preforms by debinding were dipped with water glass or silica sol, respectively and were calcined in air. The results show that the ideal method is that the debinding SiCp preforms were dipped with 0.75 wt(SiO2)%0.75 wt(SiO2)% water glass and then calcined at 800 °C for 40 min, at which, the strength of SiCp preforms can reach 3.9 MPa and the properties of prepared composites are hardly affected.
