Abstract

Microstructural characteristics of Ti–45Al–8.5Nb/TiB2 composites fabricated by two different powder metallurgy routes (XD and NXD) were investigated. Results showed that reactive hot pressing process is feasible to fabricate the composites with fine lamellar colonies. With increasing of TiB2 volume fraction, the lamellar colony and lamellar spacing of the composites fabricated by both processes become finer. However, the refining effect is more evident for XD composites. The main factor affecting existence morphologies of TiB2 is its volume fraction.
