Abstract
The effect of quenching on magnetostriction and microstructure of melt-spun Fe83Ga17 ribbons was investigated. The results show that magnetostriction of ribbons is greatly improved by heat treatment and the value of λ of ribbons reached nearly â2300 ppm after annealed at 700 °C for 3 h. The XRD analyses reveal that the microstructure of melt-spun Fe83Ga17 alloy ribbons was changed after heat treatment and the transition of A2 + DO3 â A2 + DO3 + DO19 occurred at 700 °C for the ribbons. The magnetostriction of Fe83Ga17 ribbons is influenced by the emergence of DO19 structure and the increase of ordered degree, and the variation of crystallinity of A2 phase is also related to the magnetostriction of Fe83Ga17 ribbons.
