Abstract
We report the effect of NiO on the luminescence properties of bismuth-doped barium aluminosilicate glasses. Visible luminescence at about 425 nm and broadband infrared luminescence at about 1330 nm are observed from the bismuth-doped barium aluminosilicate glasses when excited by ultraviolet light and 808 nm laser diode, respectively. The intensity of the two emissions decreases with increasing NiO concentration. The mechanisms of the observed phenomena are discussed.
