Abstract
Novel multiple-reinforced (TiB + TiC + La2O3)/Ti composite were in situ synthesized utilizing the reaction between Ti, B4C, LaB6 and oxygen inside the matrix alloy through homogeneous melting in a consumable vacuum arc remelting furnace (VAR). The TiB, TiC and La2O3 reinforcements were homogeneously distributed in the matrix. La2O3 reinforcements have certain crystal relationships with the matrix titanium presented as: [101]La2O3//[101¯1]Ti, (101¯)La2O3//(11¯01¯)Ti. Multiple-reinforced (TiB + TiC + La2O3)/Ti composite has higher strength and plasticity than hybrid-reinforced (TiB + TiC)/Ti composite with the same volume fraction of reinforcements.
