Abstract

In situ Al3Ti particles reinforced Al surface composites were prepared by means of ultrasonic treatment in this paper. The microstructure and phases of the composites were investigated using optical microscope, SEM, and XRD. A novel horn crucible was designed and fabricated specially for this experiment. The results show that in situ Al3Ti particles were moved to the bottom of specimen under the action of ultrasonic wave. The ultrasonic treating leads to the decrease of viscosity and the increase of the fluidity of metal melt, which accelerated the movement of the second phase particles in metal melt under the force fields of gravity and buoyancy.
