Abstract
The (Sr0.47Ca0.53)2Al compound was successfully synthesized by induction melting of appropriate amounts of pure metals. The crystal structure was determined by X-ray powder diffraction. (Sr0.47Ca0.53)2Al crystallizes in space group I4/mmm; cell parameters: a = b = 11.900(1) Ã
, c = 16.811(2) Ã
; ZÂ =Â 24. This structure can be built up from Al-centered polyhedra of Ca (Sr) and isolated Al4 tetrahedra.
