Abstract
The deformation behaviour of rapidly solidified Mg97Y2Zn (at.%) ribbons was evaluated from room temperature to 400 °C. The microstructure of the alloy in the as-spun condition consists of magnesium grains and a long period stacking ordered (LPSO) second phase. The hard LPSO phase provides the ribbons high mechanical strength, which is retained up to 250 °C. At higher temperature, the yield stress decreases with test temperature and deformation is controlled by extensively non-basal slip.
