Abstract

The phase diagram and thermodynamic properties of the Cu–Hf system are reevaluated based on the available experimental data in the literature. The Redlich–Kister polynomial is used to describe the excess Gibbs energies of the liquid phase as well as the terminal phases. All the intermetallics are treated as stoichiometric compounds. Based on the optimization technique in CALPHAD, a self-consistent thermodynamic description of the Cu–Hf system is obtained. The calculated phase diagrams as well as the thermodynamic properties are compared with the experimental results, and a satisfactory agreement is obtained.
