Abstract

Crystallographic and magnetic properties of the ternary alloys Ru2MnZ (Z = Si, Ge, Sn and Sb) have been investigated by means of X-ray and magnetic analysis. Ru2MnZ (Z = Ge, Sn and Sb) have the L21 (Heusler-type) structure. Ru2MnSi is obtained in partially disordered form (Ru–Si disorder). The Néel temperature TN, the paramagnetic Curie temperature θp and the effective magnetic moment pc deduced from the Curie constant are TN = 313 K, θp = 21.4 K, pc = 2.8μB for Ru2MnSi, TN = 316 K, θp = −46.3 K, pc = 3.2μB for Ru2MnGe, TN = 296 K, θp = −120.1 K, pc = 2.8μB for Ru2MnSn and TN = 195 K, θp = 91.4 K, pc = 3.9μB for Ru2MnSb. The exchange constants of Ru2MnZ (Z = Si, Ge, Sn and Sb) are determined on the basis of experimental results.
