Abstract
Two new layered perovskite compounds Ba3InBiO7−x and Ba4InBiO8−x have been synthesized by solid-state reaction. Rietveld structural refinement of X-ray powder diffraction data verify that Ba3InBiO7−x and Ba4InBiO8−x are n = 2 and 1 members of the Ruddlesden–Popper series. Both compounds upon exposure to air readily form hydrates by intercalation water into the layered structures. During hydration, a structural transformation from an I to a P Bravais lattice is observed.
