Abstract
The phase diagram of the ternary Yb–Ni–B system at 1070 K has been built using the results of X-ray diffraction. As a result of our research the existence of six ternary borides has been confirmed, the composition of the borides YbNi7B3 (space group I41/amd, ErNi7B3 structure type) and Yb2−xNi21B6 (space group Fm3m, Cr23C6 structure type) has been refined and four new compounds have been found, namely: ∼YbNi6.5B3 (cubic structure), Yb3Ni19B10 (C2/m, Ho3Ni19B10 structure type), Yb3Ni7B2 (P63/mmc, Dy3Ni7B2 structure type) and ∼YbNi4B (space group P6/mmm). The last one exists only in as-cast samples.
