Abstract

In this study, nano-structure hydroxyapatite powder, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2, doped with gadolinium in different mole percentage of 1, 2, and 10 were synthesized. The nano-powders were obtained by hydrolysis of Ca(OH)2 and DCPD(CaHPO4.2H2O) in aqueous solution and then analyzed through X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy systems. The results show Gd has been successfully doped into the hydroxyapatite structure and nano-powders with mean crystallite sizes between 30-100 nm were obtained. The samples were objected to Cobalt-60 gamma rays irradiation with doses of 25 Gy to 1000 Gy. Then, the thermoluminescence properties of gadolinium doped hydroxyapatite including dose response, reusability and fading were studied and compared with the pure hydroxyapatite. The glow curves of samples showed a main peak at around 200 °C
