Abstract

•Synthesis of La doped BaNd2Ti3O10 by solid state reaction method.•Confirmation of thermally generated charge carriers from resistivity study.•Semiconducting behavior of La-BNT ceramics.

The BaNd1.96La0.04Ti3O10 (La-BNT) sample was prepared by solid state reaction method. The prepared sample was characterized by different techniques. The structural study was carried out by X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. The morphological study is carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) technique. The surface morphological study showed that the La-BNT hexagonal bricks are randomly oriented. The electrical study of La-BNT pellet was made with the help of resistivity measurement and impedance analysis. The resistivity plot showed that sample is in highly resistive state. The resistivity study showed that thermally induced mobility of the charge carriers may develop in La-BNT pellet. The activation energy Ea was obtained from the DC resistivity data and it was found that 0.47 eV which shows n-type semiconductor.
