•TiO2/rGO layered film was firstly utilized for ammonia detection.•TiO2/rGO based sensor has good gas sensing properties for ammonia.•The facile preparation process avoids the reagglomeration of graphene sheets.
In this study, a new strategy for developing the metal oxide/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) layered film sensor was proposed. Through stepwise deposition of GO and titanium dioxides (TiO2) layers, and following with simple thermal treatment, the uniform TiO2/rGO layered film was achieved. This facile preparation process avoids the reagglomeration of graphene sheets with effect and intensively improves the interaction between graphene sheets and TiO2 nanoparticles. The structure and ammonia-sensing performances of TiO2/rGO layered film were investigated. The results revealed that layered film sensor exhibited the enhanced response and excellent selectivity compared to those of pure rGO one due to the efficient synergistic effect.
