Abstract
•Morpho Au-TiO2 replicas by thermal hydrolysis of aqueous titanyl sulphate.•Morpho Didius butterfly preserves the photonic property.•Methylene blue was effectively degraded under visible light irradiation.
This work describes the synthesis of bioinspired morpho TiO2 decorated with gold nanoparticles. The photocatalytic properties of the morho Au–TiO2 is to be investigated by degradation of methylene blue under visible light irradiation at ambient temperature. The high photocatalytic activity should be assigned to the fine microstructure of the Morpho Didius replicated and the presence of plasmonic gold.
