Abstract
AZ31 magnesium alloys with different density of twins were obtained by compressive deformation and their microstructure was examined by optical microscopy. The potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests show that twins enhance the electrochemical activity of the AZ31 alloys. An Mg-air battery based on the processed AZ31 alloys was prepared and the battery performance was investigated by intermittent discharge test. The intermittent discharge test indicates that Mg-air battery based on AZ31 alloy with twins exhibits preferable intermittent discharge behavior, such as a higher discharge voltage and a shorter retardation time.
