Abstract
highlights•Plasma electrolytic oxidation of vanadium-free titanium alloy is presented.•PEO leads to formation of silicon rich oxide layer on the Ti–15Mo alloy surface.•Modification of the surface led to an increase of bioactivity of the Ti–15Mo alloy.
The influence of the parameters used in the plasma electrolytic oxidation of Ti–15Mo alloy on the microstructure and chemical composition of the obtained oxide layer was determined, and the bioactivity of the modified alloy was measured. The obtained oxide layers are composed of crystalline titanium oxides and incorporated silicon species.
