Abstract

A novel polymer electrolyte for lithium-ion battery was prepared by adding high density polyethylene (HDPE) particles to poly vinylidene fluoride (PVDF). The HDPE particles were made by solvent-exchange method and characterized by SEM and XRD. The morphology and electrochemical performance including ionic conductivity, electrochemical stability, and cell performances of the prepared electrolyte were studied. The results show that moderate addition of HDPE particles could improve the electrochemical properties significantly. High ionic conductivity of 2.36×10−3 S cm−1 is achieved at room temperature. The half-cell assembled with PVDF/HDPE membranes shows better rate capability and higher discharge capacity than that assembled with pure PVDF membrane.
