► Novel porous Co3O4 polyhedral architectures have been prepared successfully. ► Porous Co3O4 polyhedrons are composed of many interconnected nanoparticles of ∼50 nm. ► Co3O4 shows enhanced lithium-storage performance owing to the unique architecture.
