Abstract
Effect of a strong magnetic field (up to 16 T) on the interdiffusion behavior between Al and Cu in the Al/Cu diffusion couple has been investigated experimentally. Results show that the application of a strong magnetic field has caused the reduction of the diffusion layer thickness and retarded the interdiffusion. This may be attributed to the formation of the magnetic force and the damping of the convections under a strong magnetic field.
► A strong magnetic field has reduced the diffusion layer thickness. ► A strong magnetic field has retarded the interdiffusion between Al and Cu atoms. ► This may be attributed to the magnetic force and the damping of convections.
