Abstract

Near infrared (NIR) cutoff organic/inorganic hybrid silica nanocomposite coatings with good optical and mechanical properties were prepared. The nanocomposite coatings are two-phase materials consisting of a hybrid silica polymer matrix and antimony doped tin oxide (ATO) as a nanosized-filler. The polymer matrix could be formed via the crosslinking reaction of oligomers, dilutes, and silica sols grafted with 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (γ-MPS). The thermal stability, mechanical and optical properties were investigated. The results showed that the coatings possessed good mechanical properties and thermal stability. In addition, the UV–Visible-near infrared (UV–VIS-NIR) spectra showed that the novel hybrid silica composite coatings could block NIR rays effectively with high transmittance of above 80% in a visible light region and haze below 6.0%.
