Abstract

(1−x)Pb(Lu1/2Nb1/2)O3−xPbTiO3 piezoelectric ceramics with compositions of 0.41≤x≤0.51 have been synthesized by the solid state reactions method. Their structure, dielectric, piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties have been studied by means of X-ray diffraction and electric measurements. There is no obvious evidence to show the existence of the morphotropic phase boundary, which is different from the previous report where the morphotropic phase boundary was determined to 0.38≤x≤0.49. The ceramics with compositions of 0.47≤x≤0.49 present best piezoelectric properties in this system. For 0.52PLN-0.48PT, the piezoelectric coefficientts, d33, remnant polarization, Pr and the Curie temperature, TC are measured to be 350 pC/N, 34 μC/cm2 and 375 °C, respectively, making the ceramics of this system a promising material system for use in high-temperature sensors.

► A binary ferroelectric ceramics of Pb(Lu1/2Nb1/2)O3-PbTiO3 have been synthesized successfully by solid state reaction routine. ► The ceramic of this system exhibits quite good comprehensive piezoelectric properties. ► This system will be a promising candidate of the piezoelectric materials for high power and high temperature application.
